Founded in 2014 and now the largest youth-run nonprofit in women’s health, PERIOD. is a nonprofit organization that aims to end period poverty and period stigma.
Working with the national PERIOD. branch based in Vancouver, BC, I was asked to create a series of social media assets, as well as a poster to promote the 2018 PERIOD. Huddle conference. Because the brief specifically requested a “friendly illustrative style”, the design includes hand-drawn elements with a focus on pattern. The initial colour and pattern schemes were later revised to fit more precisely with the brand’s identity.
With the finalized “identity” of the campaign, the poster carries on the same themes and elements of the cover photos. With very little copy and with a busy background, it was imperative that the information was clearly conveyed. The original poster was designed with a thick white border to be more convenient during production time, and to ensure that the no-print area would look intentional and reduce the awkwardness of the empty space.
As part of the exposure campaign on Facebook, PERIOD. Canada intended to release content on a regular basis over time, including an introduction of the organization’s members, period and PERIOD. facts, and period tips. In order to allow the social media team to produce their own content, social media templates were requested for each category. To maintain consistency while still allowing for variation, each category’s template came with three colour schemes, along with a guide showing the approximate text placement, font colour, and alignment.
